Street types cross sections
Here are some examples of typical streets that have been approved and adopted by Nottingham City Council.

Avenue
An Avenue is a tree-lined street that connects the neighbourhood with the main roads. This street is wide enough to take a bus route if necessary in the future. Street types and network hierarchy must be agreed with Nottingham City Council at pre-application stage.
Avenue with parking
An Avenue can include on-street parking in specific locations.
Main street
A Main Street distributes vehicular movement across the neighbourhood forming a connected link, loop or circuit. This street is wide enough to take a bus route if necessary in the future. Feature trees can be incorporated in specific locations where there is sufficient root space. Street types and network hierarchy must be agreed with Nottingham City Council at pre-application stage.

Residential street
A Quiet Street distributes vehicular movement to small groups of houses. This street will not accommodate public transport but it must accommodate service and emergency vehicles. Feature trees or planting can be incorporated in specific locations where there is sufficient root space. Lane
A Lane provides access to a few houses at a time. This street will not accommodate public transport but it must accommodate service and emergency vehicles. Feature trees or planting can be incorporated in specific locations where there is sufficient root space. Mews
Mews provide access to a few houses at a time in constrained places with restricted space. This street will not accommodate public transport but it must accommodate service and emergency vehicles. Street types and network hierarchy must be agreed with Nottingham City Council at pre-application stage.
